OPTIMISE is the phase that many IT departments are focused on. Responsibility2 TM sets out ten initiatives that Logicalis believes can improve efficiency and drive down environmental impact. Many of the ten are widely discussed in the ‘Green IT' debate, if not a little limited to specific vendors or products; an IBM System z mainframe, for example, can consolidate thousands of Linux servers in a single platform. However, in regard to some topics, the elephants in the room are less well known and less understood as environmental challenges (the discipline of Information Life Cycle Management being one of the most pertinent examples). The optimisation phase does not focus on product-by-product evaluations but on the lifecycle of IT and real-world projects which IT departments can undertake to make significant savings.
