LEWISHAM PCT TO DEPLOY STATE-OF-THE-ART SECURITY TO PROTECT USERS AND PATIENT CONFIDENTIALITY
Electronic Single Sign-On, Password Management and Biometric Fingerprint Authentication – UK First for Primary Care Trust
The Lambeth Southwark & Lewisham Shared ICT Services (LSLSIS) has signed a 12-month contract on behalf of Lewisham Primary Care Trust (PCT) with Logicalis. A state-of-the-art security solution featuring biometric technology will ensure absolute patient confidentiality by providing 300 users at Lewisham's Children and Young Person's Centre with access to confidential shared files enabling faster, more efficient and better overall patient care.
Dedicated to the primary, social, mental and health care of children and young people, Lewisham PCT is responsible for ensuring that each department is able to work efficiently and seamlessly to make the patient experience as painless as possible.
Involving multiple parties in the lifecycle of patient treatment is a huge development in the care provided, however, strict data confidentiality requires bullet-proof security. Using Electronic Single Sign-On, Password Management and Biometric Fingerprint Authentication from Imprivata, the triple layer platform designed and implemented by Logicalis will ensure safety for individual users whilst protecting patient confidentiality.
Lewis Honour, Security Practice Manager at Logicalis comments, "Innovative security is at the heart of this project and will be a first for Primary Care Trusts in England. To ensure that improved access does not jeopardise patient confidentiality, biometric authentication, in conjunction with Cisco's Application Network Services, will be used. This solution will absolve users and the IT department of any pressure to re-issue passwords and usernames on a regular basis and supports their need for an enhanced security posture. It removes the two weakest links in the security chain – users and password management."
Adding, "Access to confidential information is also protected as rights are provided according to user profile, and supported by biometric fingerprint authentication. This is a really exciting project for both Lewisham PCT and Logicalis, and the anticipated benefits will make a real difference to how Primary Care Trusts provide services to patients."

During this 12 month project Logicalis will provide Lewisham PCT with an infrastructure that allows each department to work together more closely without jeopardising patient confidentiality. As the government continues its drive to consolidate various healthcare services into single custom built centres, Logicalis anticipates that the Lewisham model is one that will soon be replicated at Primary Care Trusts across the country.
